About B.Sc. Biotechnology

B.Sc. Biotechnology at MSLS is a programme covering the broad aspects of biotechnology for students to choose a stream of their choice in life sciences.

The programme offers learning with almost 3 semesters dedicated to research lab exposure.

  • Students learn about different areas of biotechnology, including genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, biophysics, and business studies.
  • The programme emphasises research-oriented learning through training in labs, collaborative research projects, and exposure to industry practices.
  • Students get opportunities to work as Research Scientists, Lab Technicians, Quality Control Analysts, Production Assistants, Medical Sales Representatives, and many more.

Students get to learn from modern instrumentation such as mass spectrometers, confocal microscopes, greenhouse and many more.

Modern diagnostic centre

MSLS provides advanced molecular and cytogenetic diagnostic tests to the community on a non-profit basis. A wide array of tests is available for clinicians (and patients) to choose from to ensure a rapid and accurate diagnosis of the underlying conditions. Clinical samples from the Udupi, Mangalore and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka are diagnosed.

Government infrastructure support

Students get to use the latest tools and equipment through the support of TIFAC-CORE, DST-FIST, Government of India and K-FIST, Government of Karnataka.

Eligibility

Successful completion of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and one optional subject (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject)

  • Apply online via the MAHE portal.
  • Upload 10+2 Mark card
  • Appear for Manipal Entrance Test (MET)
  • Merit list based on 50% weightage given to MET score and 50% weightage to the marks obtained in 10+2 examinations (Biology + Chemistry + Physics / Biotechnology / Mathematics / any other Life Sciences + English) Score
